Kesteven were forced to make a number of changes for their Midlands Senior Vase quarter-final against Stourbridge Lions.
Stourbridge Lions 41
Ks were still confident of competing against their West Midlands counterparts and the game started well for the visitors as they forced the Lions on to the back foot from the kick-off. And when an early scrum was won against the head, confidence began to grow amongst the Kesteven players.
However, the first few attacks were met by a solid home defence. The home side soon turned the tables and they opened the scoring with a well worked catch and drive. This was followed up with a second score following a number of pick and drives.
Kesteven responded well and thought they had scored just before the break, but the referee was unsighted and unable to give the try.
Ks came out for the second half confident they could get back into the game. But around the hour mark a good counter-attacking score and an unlucky yellow card for Andresson, eventually put the result of the game beyond doubt.
The final 20 minutes took their toll as the now rampant home side finished with a flourish against the tired visitors.
Although the final score looked a little flattering, the Lions were clear winners and the better side throughout on the day.
