Kesteven 20 Stowmarket 34

Kesteven under-14s rounded off their season with a tour to Suffolk over the bank holiday weekend.

On Sunday, they were pitted against a Stowmarket side who were looking for revenge for last year’s defeat. Stowmarket fielded a physically very strong team, with a number of under-15 players against a depleted Kesteven.

It took a couple of early Stowmarket scores before Kesteven upped their workrate. After a masterful interception by Palin, and good work by the front row of B. Cole, J. Cole and Hodgson secured possession, the ball was moved to winger Spriggs who sprinted for the first try.

A good team effort, mixing strong work by forwards, followed by breaks from Bartlett and Palin, then released the ball to Spriggs who went close to the try line where scrum half Archer quickly leaped through to score the second try.

Barlett’s try saw half time approach but Stowmarket had scored five themselves in the first half.

Kesteven upped the effort and the second half was drawn with Cox scoring for the touring side to finish an enjoyable if tiring tour and season.

Kesteven: Hodgson, B. Cole, J. Cole, Hughes, Taylor, Bartlett, Cox, T. Tapson, Archer, Brewis, Moth, Wainright, Rogerson, Palin, A. Tapson, Parr, Brenton, Del Brocco, Spriggs.
