NLD first round (2nd match)
KESTEVEN started the New Year with a trip to Nottingham to contest the second match in their NLD group. Both sides having a win under their belt meant that this match would be the decisive match in the group, with the winners almost certain to go through to the semi-finals
An early start gave the players an opportunity to warm up well prior to the commencement of battle. A Nottingham versus Kesteven match, regardless of it being an NLD or a friendly, is always well contested.
The same match last season saw Nottingham just beating Ks to put them out of the first round, therefore revenge was in the air for the players as Kesteven had their eyes on a place in the last four.
Kesteven kicked off the match, each half being of 30 minutes duration, and scored the first try of the match from a determined Allen who went over in the corner.
The second half saw Nottingham level the scores with a try early on in the half. Kesteven responded with a try from Ryder who went under a number of Nottingham players. Penalties from Danford and Bloodworth sealed the victory for Ks.
Ed Cole’s great play in the forwards gave Kesteven the momentum to gain a great win.
