Prize presentations were made after the final race of the season at Rampton on Sunday. Phil Atherton triumphed as overall champion, with Phil Etches finishing runner-up and Chris Samler third.

The race format rewards riders for consistency, with Phil Atherton’s top eight races from 13 earning him 456 points from a possible 480. Phil Etches totalled 440 and Chris had 434.

Clubmates Dave Moulds and Tony Mendham finished fifth and sixth respectively. In the individual group awards, Phil Atherton won Group Five and Paul Conneely was first in Group Six.

l Frieston international road racer Katie Colclough represented Great Britain in the World Road Race Championships in Holland on Saturday.

The 22-year-old former Grantham College student’s day was marred by a huge pile-up, following a crash in the bunch on the second ascent of the Cauberg in the eight-lap, 129km race, resulting in some facial cuts.

Although delayed, Katie and GB team-mate Emma Pooley rejoined the main field, but Katie did not complete the race which was won by favourite Marianne Vos of the home nation.
