NEW player activity at Grantham Town continued apace this week and included the long-awaited 'return' of Martin Wormall to his home town team.The Grantham-based former Harrowby United striker played briefly for the Gingerbreads five years ago, albeit briefly, and was on the verge of rejoining in 2007, but he changed his mind and returned to Stamford.
Wormall scored regularly for Spalding United last season and should be a good acquisition for Grantham managerial duo Jimmy Albans and Wayne Hallcro.
The last two weeks have seen a number of other players also putting pen to paper.
Familiar faces from last season's Gingerbreads squad are Danny Brooks and Billy Stubbs, and crowd pleaser Rob Norris returns to The Meres from Shepshed Dynamo.
Former Shepshed goalkeeper Gary Hateley has signed, as have Ricky Hanson, Chris Gray, Dave Frecklington, Ben Saunders and Sam Saunders.
Albans and Hallcro's most recent signings this week were former Gingerbread Lee Marshall, Adam Jones, Danny French and Robert Hughes.
New additions on the coaching side are Andy Drummond and Dennis Rhule.
And Town's managers are not done yet.
Hallcro said: "There is still more to come. We are talking to players all the time.
"But we are particularly interested in two who have got experience at Unibond Premier level, as well as at this level."
Albans, Hallcro and Gingerbreads fans will get their first glimpse of how the side will shape up in Town's pre-season training, starting tomorrow morning on the pitch behind The Meres East Stand.
Hallcro said: "Saturday is about blowing the cobwebs away. It will mix a bit of fitness work with some ball work.
"The real hard work starts next week."
* Grantham's re-arranged pre-season friendly schedule is: July 11 - Deeping Rangers (A), 3pm; July 16 - Lincoln Moorlands (A), 7.30pm; July 25 - Bridlington Town (A), 3pm; July 28, Lincolnshire County Shield - Spalding United (A), 7.30pm; July 30 - Corby Town (H), 7.30pm; August 4 (prov), Lincs Shield - Stamford or Gainsborough Trinity, 7.30pm; August 6 - Gedling (A), 7.30pm.
* Grantham Town have secured sponsorship of The Meres main stand, which will this season be known as The Letting Company Stand.
Club chairman Darron Quinn said: "This is the largest package the club have obtained as a direct result of contact via our website.
"We are pleased to welcome The Lettings Company to the growing number of companies getting involved with the Gingerbreads.
"This is a great deal for the club and we hope it will lead to a long term relationship."
