Monday, Jan 14 - Traffic hell continues on Monday when a £2m resurfacing and restructuring project begins on the A52 between Barrowby and Bingham.
Work will be done overnight and at weekends to minimise disruption, but will continue for four months according to the Highways Agency.

The project will involve resurfacing and partial reconstruction of both sides of the carriageway between HMP Whatton and Elton Road bridge, strengthening of the bridge over the River Smite at Whatton and renewing signs and road markings along the whole 13-mile route.

Project manager Kamaljit Khokhar said: "The work is necessary to ensure the continued safe provision of the A52 and avoid the need for unplanned emergency repairs.

"When complete road users will get a safer, smoother and quieter ride.

"We will do everything possible to minimise disruption but delays are inevitable so we advise people to allow extra time for their journeys, particularly when the A52 is closed, and to take care while driving through the works."

A 40mph speed limit will be in place when work is being carried out and there will be lane closures with temporary traffic lights and a safety vehicle leading traffic through the site in convoy at 10mph.

Overnight work will be done from 8pm until 6am, but dates for these road closures are yet to be confirmed. The road will be closed from 10pm on Friday until 6am the following Monday on three occasions in February, starting on the 8th, 15th and 22nd.

Throughout the closures, the road will be shut between Barrowby and Bingham, although local access will be in place.

Traffic will be diverted from the Saxondale roundabout at Bingham northbound up the A46 to Newark, then the A1 southbound to the junction with the A52 at Barrowby, or vice-versa.

Access to Cromwell Road, Conery Lane, Old Grantham Road (East and West) in Whatton will be restricted when resurfacing is being done.
