Grantham Museum will hold a second-hand book sale on Saturday, May 10, to raise money for the museum.
There will be a wide selection of books to buy, and all proceeds will go to the museum’s upkeep.
Special guest will be Molly Burkett, who will talk to visitors. Her signed books will be available for purchase.
Molly has been writing since the age of five. She and her late husband, John, opened a bird rescue centre rehabilitating all kinds of birds back into the wild. Most cases were successful.
Her foray into publishing came later when she formed Barny Books and started writing stories about all the escapades the various animals got up to with her children, family and friends. These stories proved very popular, the first one (The Year of the Badger) even getting bought up by Disney.
She was also the first person to start interviewing Second World War veterans and had several books out of the Once Upon a War series.
She has recently published We Were There 1, stories from First World War veterans as described by diaries that have been left and a further book (We Were There 2) is due out in May.
In 2008, Molly was awarded an MBE for her services to wildlife and to the community as an author and historian.
She is a prolific author, collaborating with many local war veterans to put their stories into print, and has worked closely with local schools.
Meanwhile, the new coffee shop at the museum is now open.
The book sale is on 10am-4pm.
