The premiere of a show by Grantham dancer Paul Chantry and his dance company will be staged at the Guildhall Arts Centre in October.
Out of Bounds is a collection of four works by Paul who is artistic director of the Chantry Dance Company, a modern ballet company, and his wife Rae Piper.
Rae has choreographed ‘404 - not found’ which she calls a ‘digital fairytale’. It is set in the world of the chat room and Rae says it is “unashamedly comedic and romantic at the same time and asks the question: how can we separate the digital world from the real world?”
The second piece is called ‘ad fidem’, an ensemble piece based on poems written by Paul about a journey to faith, and ‘Singing Day’ is a solo for Rae, choreographed by Paul to the music of Philip Glass which will open up people’s imaginations. Paul said: “Any interpretation is valid.”
Finally, ‘All I Can Do Is Be Me’ is a spirited ballet to the music of Bob Dyland, which celebrates the search for freedom.
The ballet will be performed on Thursday, October 24, at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £12/£10 and £8.50 for students and schools. Call the box office on 01476 406158 or go to www.guildhallartscentre.com
Paul and Rae started the Chantry Dance Company in London but brought the company to Grantham, Paul’s home town, this year and it is now based at the Dance Pointe studios. The company was recently awarded charitable status.
