District councillor Ian Selby has been in the news recently as a member of Last GASP, an action group fighting plans to close Grantham’s ambulance station.
This is just one of the battles Coun Selby has fought in his 17 years as a Labour councillor in Grantham, 11 of which were for the Isaac Newton ward and the remainder the Harrowby ward.
He said: “The vast majority of my time is spent doing something to help someone else. Even one of my hobbies of photography is undertaken most of the time for other people.”
Coun Selby, 49, is pictured with a Margaret Thatcher mask as back in 2001 he came under fire for ruining a formal council photo by slipping on a Thatcher mask for fun.
He has many hobbies, including judo, football and showjumping.
He said: “When I was younger, I loved going showjumping. Harvey Smith was my childhood hero. I still can’t believe I witnessed Team GB winning gold, the ultimate in the sport, at this years Olympics.”
Another passion of Coun Selby’s is his Sunday night radio show on commmunity radio station Gravity FM.
