An exhibition of paintings and drawings exploring the Lincolnshire countryside will be held at the Guildhall Arts Centre in Grantham from November 10 to 21.

Artist and well-known local tutor Sarah Watson will be exhibiting her first one-woman show called ‘paintings and drawings from the gut and the heart’.

Visitors to the event can expect vibrant and expressive semi-abstract landscapes, which Sarah composes many of her works outside in charcoal, pastels or watercolour which she then translates onto canvas in her studio.

Guests familiar with the Lincolnshire countryside will easily recognise many of the vistas from the immediate area around Grantham, even if it is presented through a kaleidoscope of colour and abstraction.

Sarah said: “I am particularly in thrall to the constantly changing colours and patterns in crop fields and young woodland through the seasons.

“I see something new in the landscape every day, from Great Gonerby to Belvoir, Denton to Ancaster, Lincolnshire is my tireless, beautiful muse.”

Sarah graduated from De Montfort University with a first class degree in combined arts in 1994. Since then she has undertaken several large commissions including abstract and semi-figurative paintings for a private indoor swimming pool and a series for a commercial recording studio, as well as private portraits of people and animals.

The exhibition will take place in the Newton Room at the arts centre on St Peter’s Hill, and entry is free.

The centre will be open daily from 9.30am to 4.30pm and during evening showtimes. Visitors are however, advised to call in advance to ensure the exhibition room is open to the public, on 01476 406158.
