FATHER Norton Collard – a long-time columnist in the Grantham Journal – celebrates his 90th birthday this week.
Father Collard has been a well-known and popular presence in the town for decades.
He was vicar of St Anne’s Church in Harrowby Road from 1970 until his retirement in 1987.
Father Collard became a clergyman in 1965 after leaving a successful career in advertising. Among his accomplishments was the slogan: “Don’t say brown, say Hovis”.
Father Collard’s column – “Thoughtful Moment” – first appeared in the Journal in 1985 and he did not miss a single week until his recent illness – even writing two columns from his hospital bed.
We are pleased to report that Father Collard is recovering well and we at the Journal all wish him the best on his 90th birthday.
