A Grantham art gallery is providing the opportunity to have children’s portraits taken or to decorate dinner plates while its latest exhibition showcases talented artists.
Blue Owl Art, based at Grantham Tennis Club, enjoyed a very busy and melodic opening night for its current exhibition ‘Looking at the World’. For the first time, the gallery had live music playing during the evening by Grantham boys Elliot Smith-Rasmussen on keyboard and John Fleming on guitar.
This latest exhibition representing four artists is now open seven days a week. Paul Letchworth’s dynamic paintings are inspired by exploring well known architectural museum spaces. Angus Lilburn’s work in black and white relates to the relationship between shapes.
Penny Bird is a photographer drawn to nature and has a highly artistic eye for taking candid portraits of children. Penny is available for a children’s portrait weekend at the gallery over the weekend of February 27 and 28. Finally, Christine Partridge’s paintings borne from her passion for trees are painted on beech wood and use a limited, muted palette.
The paintings can be found on the ground floor in the bar and cafe area as well as in the main first floor gallery space with the majority of the work available to buy.
Blue Owl’s display cabinet stocks many contemporary makers’ and designers’ work which includes cushions, purses, notebooks and a variety of jewellery. They also stock a wide range of cards.
Blue Owl can organise a family or pet portrait in a range of media, including graphite pencil or oil paint.
Belinda Thomas, of the gallery, said: “Sometimes people forget we have this amazing gallery space in Grantham and it really is a very friendly place to visit, we urge you to drop in and have a look for yourself as there is so much going on here.
“We also have a ‘Decorate Your Porcelain Dinner Plate Workshop’ coming up on February 23 using transfer techniques so do contact us if you would like to join us for a fun evening with Kate McBride.”
