School choirs and musicians are being invited to perform in Grantham on the run-up to Christmas to help build up festive cheer ahead of the big day.
South Kesteven District Council is looking for groups, from choirs to carol singers, folk groups to buskers, wassailers to steel bands, to be involved in either the traditional Christmas lights switch-on on Sunday, December 1, or any of the three Saturdays before Christmas.
Groups can either tour the town singing or playing, join the traditional market in Grantham Market Place or sing carols by the tree on St Peter’s Hill, said Councillor Bob Adams, portfolio holder for leisure, arts and culture.
He added: “We are putting time and money into making sure that the pre-Christmas build up goes well in Grantham and we are open to suggestions. It would be lovely to see schools come along and sing, for instance.
“We have funded Grantham Events to make sure the Christmas Sunday switch on has plenty for visitors and shoppers to enjoy and some music always helps the day go with a swing.
“There are also three Saturdays remaining in the run-up to Christmas when it would be lovely to hear music in the town and bring more people into local shops.”
