Rex, 77, of Harrowby Road, started out aged 14 working for Ruston and Hornsby before travelling around engineering companies in the town throughout the 1950s to help with their technological expansion.

Rex worked his way up the ranks until 27 years ago when he retired as managing director for Welding Machines Automated Ltd.

Born and bred in Grantham Rex is an active member of the community and was involved in the carnival for 25 years.

Since his retirement he has been well-known for collecting everything from cameras to motorbikes.
