For their autumn concert this year Grantham Choral Society is combining a programme of English music by Sir Edward Elgar and Sir Hubert Parry with a mass from Eastern Europe composed by Antonin Dvorak.
The main items in the concert will be Dvorak’s Mass in D, Elgar’s Te Deum and Benedictus – composed for the Three Choirs Festival in 1897 and Blest Pair of Sirens and I Was Glad – two works composed by Parry and performed at the Royal wedding of Prince William and Kate Middleton. I Was Glad was originally composed in 1902 for the Coronation of King Edward VII.
The concert will take place on November 15 in ChristChurch, Finkin Street, at 7.30pm.
The choir will be conducted by their Musical Director, Nigel Stark, and accompanied by Colin Druce on the organ. Tickets may be purchased in advance from the Guildhall Box Office (Tel: 01476 406158), Clark’s Shoe Shop, Simmonds Music and members of the Society or at the door on the night. Tickets for adults cost £12 and £8 for students.
