FIRST impressions are incredibly important, and the young members of Harrowby Singers certainly made a fantastic one.
I was blown away by the opening scene of the production of Annie - the orphans were wonderful and they had a lively chemistry.
During that fabulous opening scene, we were introduced to Annie, played by the incredibly talented Rebecca Mahoney. At 11 years old, you can’t expect too much as an audience member, but high as my expectations could have been she would have exceeded them.
Not once did she miss a line, falter or fluff up a song, and her American accent was top notch throughout. I cannot rave enough about this superstar in the making.
Meanwhile, John Sheppard was heartwarming as Oliver Warbucks, Wendy Biggs was scary as Miss Hannigan, and Daniel Poole and Jasmine Groves were spot-on in their portrayal of money-grabbers Rooster and Lily. Steve Sale was also a delight as Drake the butler.
I must give special mention to Rebecca Sale. She was the perfect choice as Grace Farrell and her voice is simply stunning.
In fact, all the Singers were fabulous. The whole production had me enthralled throughout.
l Annie is on at the Guildhall tonight and tomorrow at 7.30pm.
