Following months of rehearsals, Walton Girls’ High School students together with pupils from King’s School and KGGS, produced a polished, high-energy version of hit Broadway show Hairspray.

More than 100 students from across the schools participated, both on stage and behind the scenes.

Grantham’s Mayor and Mayoress, Cllr Ian and Mrs Sarah Stokes, were in attendance at one of last week’s sell out performances, joining parents and friends of students in one of the biggest events in the school’s calendar.

Mayor of Grantham Cllr Ian Stokes, said that the performance had “definitely been one of the highlights of my busy year in office.”

Chris Horrocks, Principal of Walton Girls’ High School and Sixth Form, said: “The professionalism and commitment shown by our students never fails to astound me and I felt immensely proud to be Principal of a school that consistently produces some of the best performing art showcases in the area. I would also like to thank those students from KGGS and The King’s School who joined the cast so successfully and enthusiastically.

“I mustn’t forget to add my thanks to all those members of staff who worked closely with the students during the many weeks of rehearsal – without their support, time and effort shows of this calibre simply would not happen.   “I have received many emails and comments from audience members who, like me, thoroughly enjoyed Hairspray and, like me, eagerly await the next musical extravaganza!”
