Charles Read Academy hosted its first Christmas Concert on Wednesday.

The Mayor of Grantham, Coun Ian Selby, a former student at Charles Read Academy’s predecessor school, was among the audience with Mayoress Anita Selby. Students across the academy showcased their talents in Drama, Performing Arts, Music and the Glee Club, which have all been developed since a brand-new enrichment programme was launched at the academy after becoming part of the David Ross Education Trust.

Miss Moorcroft, Assistant Principal and Head of Enrichment, said: “This has been such a fantastic way to celebrate Christmas at the academy. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the afternoon and I’m so proud of each of the students for putting on such a brilliant performance.”

Highlights included the Glee Club singing classics such as ‘Somewhere Only We Know’ and ‘Do They Know It’s Christmas’, the music department delivering a medley of carols and contemporary pieces, and the drama group performing a short comedy play called, ‘Away with the Manger’ a humorous piece with a message about the real meaning of Christmas.

Miss Moorcroft said: “Events like this really show the difference that our enrichment programme is making to the students’ learning experiences, enabling them to take part in a broader range of subjects and activities to enrich their current timetable and really engage them in a field of their choice.”
