TOYBOX is a parent and toddler group that meets every Tuesday from 11.30 to 1.30pm at Harrowby Lane Methodist Church.
Run by Emma Jacklin, it gives babies and children up to four years old and their parents a chance to get together in a friendly, safe environment and engage in a variety of games and activities.
Emma said: “We usually have between 20 and 30 kids here every week. They get to play and have fun, and we also provide them with a hot lunch.”
The club also allows parents to chat and catch up without worrying about their kids getting bored - there is never a dull moment at Toybox!
Lucy Nicholas is one of the regular mums at the club.
She said: “It’s brilliant. My daughter Cheris absolutely loves it.”
This was proved by an excited, giggling Cheris whizzing about all over the room on a kid’s wheelie chair.
Activities at Toybox range from arts and crafts to stories and song-time, and each week brings a new theme. This week was centred around bonfire night, with the children making fireworks and sparklers using paper and glue.
Different animals are brought in every week, including snakes, turtles, and rats. On this occasion they had rabbits - an effective way to soothe toddlers, it seems.
