Audiences and critics are raving about the film version of Les Miserables which is taking the box office by storm.
Many wondered whether the film makers could pull it off, transferring a major and incredibly successful stage musical to the screen, but if anything, they have made it even more of a spectacle.
Perhaps the most surprising thing about the film are the stars themselves. Hugh Jackman, Anne Hathaway and Russell Crowe have all been praised for their performances which, of course, call for a lot of singing which they all do admirably.
At 158 minutes in length, this is a film which many movie-goers who aren’t overly fond of musicals may decide they can miss. But it is such a big movie event that it is well worth going along just for the experience. Les Miserables continues at the Reel cinema, Grantham. Starting today are Lincoln (12A) and Zero Dark Thirty (15).
