This photograph captured the thick of the action during a Grantham Grass Track Car Racing Club meeting in the late 1960s, with some proper vintage iron out on track.

Back then, the club used a field out at Corby Glen for its race meetings, by kind permission of Alderman J. Hedley, who also presented the prizes at the end of the day.

The 500-yard racetrack on this particular day was a bit of a mudbath and the meeting was described in the Journal as ‘no afternoon for the fainthearted’.

Grantham club driver Alan Harwood is pictured leading the way.
