Grantham grass track racing was fun for all

Old Standard Vanguards appear to have been one of the cars of choice if you were a grass track racer back in the late 1960s.

The female driver pictured was Anne Fowler, of Buckminster, who was a very keen member of Grantham and District Grass Track Car Club.

With her make-up looking ‘strangely like burnt oil’, a Journal story said Anne was out to prove that women were far from being the weaker sex.

Anne said at the time: “The sensation of speed and the danger is wonderful. It is you against all the other drivers, and you have to go all out to win the race.”
