Making the most of the time you have together is the secret to a lengthy and successful marriage, says Grantham’s musical legend Trevor Leeson, who celebrates his golden wedding with wife Carole today (Friday).

The couple met at a dance hall where Trevor, playing as part of a local band, spotted Carole and they have enjoyed many years of happiness ever since.

Now both in their seventies, Trevor and Carole have lived in Grantham for their entire married life and have received lots of support from locals at the town market, which they attend together every Saturday.

They originally tied the knot back in 1965 in Sleaford, where Carole, a former residential social worker, grew up.

Trevor’s 57-year music career peaked in the early 1970s when he joined the famous Liverpudlian rock band The Merseybeats.

Sadly his rockstar lifestyle meant he was often away from home. Trevor said: “I even enjoy shopping now as it is one of the few things we get to do together.”

“He’ll be up on stage with a Zimmer frame one day.”

The pair are only just beginning to enjoy Carole’s retirement, after she was diagnosed with lung cancer five years ago.

She has since made a full recovery, much to the relief of Trevor, who Carole says has always been there for her.

Trevor is yet to call it a day and still regularly performs twice-a-week at gigs in Birmingham, Manchester and Stafford. Carole said: “He’ll be up on stage with a Zimmer frame one day.”

The couple have a son and daughter, as well as five grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

There will be no party, as there was for their silver anniversary, as the pair plan to celebrate in Majorca.

Carole said they were proud of their achievement and would recommend it to anyone.
