MEMORY LANE: Grantham High Street before WWI – unrecognisable!

High Street, Grantham.
High Street, Grantham.

Not a car, van or lorry in sight!

We printed off this shot of Grantham’s High Street in the early 1900s from an old contact sheet found by Journal reader Edward Houghton.

The building on the immediate left is the Horse and Jockey inn, with Needham’s stationers on the right.

Practically all of the buildings here have been demolished since the Second World War.
