Memory Lane: Grantham musician in Accordion Bandits is identified

Last week we published a picture of the Accordion Bandits playing at St John’s Church Hall and asked readers if they could name the unidentified performers.

Ivan Money, of Great Gonerby, called us to say he recognised the standing accordionist who was called Stan Singleton.

Mr Money said he knew Stan some years after the photo was taken when Stan went to work for him at his motor business in Cambridge Street. Stan, now deceased, later set up his own business, Grantham Carriers.

Mr Money says Stan, who lived in Dudley Road for a time, used to talk about the band and had fond memories of those days.

Last week’s photo was provided by Stan Matthews who was able to name the violinist as Percy Shelford and the drummer as Jimmy Carr.

If you know the other accordionist or trumpet player call 01476 541431 or email judith.hawkins@granthamjournal.co.uk
