With the reunion of Aveling Barford workers at Grantham Museum earlier this month, many former employees have been going through old photos taken during their time at the engineering firm.

Irene Sissins, who used to work in the invoice and despatch department, kindly provided the Journal with several snaps, including these from the company’s annual gala day.

The group picture was taken at the event on July 7, 1973, and among the children pictured is her daughter, Karen Sissins, seen second from the right on the back row.

Their efforts to create these fun costumes and an impressive float earned them a prize of £15, which they donated to help children with mental health problems.
