lLabourer George Fox was called before the courts for refusing to perform work while at the Grantham workhouse. Fox said: “I would not break stones for anybody.” He was sentenced to seven days’ hard labour.

lA drunken labourer was arrested after falling into a dyke. Joseph Archer was seen “staggering about” by PC Retchless and arrested. He was fined 2s 6d and 2s costs.

lThe school in Redmile was closed after an outbreak of whooping cough. The outbreak was described as an epidemic in the village.
