l The body of a man who had committed suicide was discovered to be that of a 16-year-old decorator from Grantham called John Thomas Poole. Mr Poole had spent six weeks in Yarmouth but “was so secretive and solitary that people with whom he lived never discovered his name.”

l Benjamin Baxter - better known in town as the “Hunting Blacksmith” - died at home in Westgate. He was well-known as a follower of the Belvoir and Cottesmore hounds.

l A joiner who was subject to “sudden fainting fits” fell from a roof while working and died. William Topliss of Redmile was 62.
