ANOTHER appeal for help from Memory Lane readers, this time via Peter Reichelt and the Lincolnshire Family History Society.

The group were contacted by Victor Pigott of Clacton-on-Sea who was researching his family tree and looking for information on his great-great-grandfather, Gabriel Pigott.

Gabriel moved from Cambridgeshire to Grantham in the mid-1840s and became a very successful businessman, owning an outfitters shop at 28 Market Place for nearly 40 years before he died in 1887.

Victor sent this photograph which shows the Pigott shop in the Market Place in the 1870s.

The family history society found Gabriel’s obituary in the Journal and his burial space at the cemetery - along with that of his wife and young daughter.

Although it is going back almost 140 years, Peter would like to hear from anyone who has any memories of the shop.
