DO you recognise any of these deadly martial artists?

This picture of Grantham’s Springfield Judo Club was taken around 30 years ago.

The club trained at its dojo in Barrowby Road, and this photo was taken to celebrate its 25th anniversary.

The club was founded by Roy Gittins, Arthur Jones and Ted Betts, who originally met in somewhat primitive conditions in the yard at the Blue Bull in Westgate.

They then moved to the Black Dog in Watergate before finally finding their home at the rear of St Mary’s Church.

Pictured at the anniversary celebration are, from left, back: J. Parry, B. Rawdon and N. Chapman; middle - P. Gibb, D. Todd, J. Birch, and M. Hopper; front - R. Rowlands, F. Watson, D. Sorrell, A. Jones and R. McDonald.
