A date clash with the 1973 European Nations Cup match between England and West Germany caused the 8th Grantham (Harrowby) Scouts fayre at St Wulfram’s school to suffer from a poor attendance.

But the Scouts still managed to raise £175 in aid of their new headquarters building fund, intended to be erected on land at the rear of Tennyson Avenue.

The fayre was opened by Mayor-designate Mrs Porter and there was a large selection of stalls and games.

A special prize of a sleeping bag for the member who sold the most raffle tickets went to Cub Scout Richard Gardiner (left) who disposed of no less than 621 tickets.

He is pictured inspecting a model of the new headquarters with his pack-mates.
