St Hugh’s School put on a highly successful version of the musical Calamity Jane in February of 1981.

The cast was a very young one, with Sandra Corton taking her first lead role as Jane. Add in the number of principal characters to the chorus and dancers, plus extras, and the performance numbered no less than 70.

The production was the school’s 10th musical, having had past successes with The King and I, My Fair Lady, The Sound of Music and Oklahoma.

Pictured are the show’s can-can girls, from left: Suzanne Roe, Beverley Jacques, Amanda Taylor, Joanne Cook, Susan Porter and Julianne Golding-Sherman. Cropped out of the photo is Phiona Eatch.
