Grantham motor dealer adverts in the Journal of March, 1965, would at the time have truly arrested the attention of the car buyer who demanded both speed and style.
Campions, of Guildhall Street, advertised the 4.2-litre V8 engined Sunbeam Tiger (pictured), capable of 0-60mph in 9.2 seconds and a top speed of over 120mph.
The Tiger was essentially a Sunbeam Alpine with a monstrous engine, and beefed up suspension and brakes, and was on sale for £1,445.10.5.
Around the corner in Watergate, Whipples boasted both the E-Type Jaguar and the equally classy, cigar-shaped Mk10, both of which had a 4.2 XK engine.
Whipples also sold the Jaguar Mk2 saloon and the ‘S’ model.
