We’re all excited about the coming return of the record-breaking Mallard in September so we thought we’d share some more Mallard-related images.
We’re grateful to Barbara Silverwood of Barrowby of providing these snaps of the then Grantham Mayor Fred Burrows celebrating 50 years since the record-breaking run back in 1988.
Mrs Silverwood was the Mayor’s secretary at the time and was given the opportunity to join Coun Burrows on a very special trip. He was invited to Scarborough to partake in the 50th anniversary celebrations.
Mrs Silverwood recalls Coun Burrows driving the Mallard himself for part of the journey.
She said: “It was a very enjoyable occasion.”
The first photograph shows Mayor Burrows on the footplate, while the second shows him beside the Mallard on the platform.
