This “snapshot” from a Grantham Journal of October, 1914, depicts some of the Lancashire Fusiliers who were among thousands of troops encamped at Belton Park who were 100 years ago receiving vaccinations before they went off to war.

They are pictured preparing to meet the medical officers who would inoculate them for protection against infectious diseases.

They were each marked on the chest with iodine by a Grantham Red Cross officer before the serum was injected.
