THESE girls were enjoying a holiday trip to Skegness with the Grantham Red Cross camp.

Marion Longland is pictured and she sent the photograph in.

The photograph was taken in the summer of 1947. Marion can name few of those pictured but does recall one of the group leaders, Miss Smith, the tall lady on the right of the picture.

Marion said: “I was one of the younger ones in the group and was probably only 11 or 12.

“I remember there were some boys who went on the trip as well but they got into some trouble when they set fire to their own tents! I can still remember that happening.

“We went round Skegness and into the sea and just had a nice holiday.”

Marion suspects there will be a fair number of those pictured still living in the area.

She said: “I think there will be quite a lot of people on that photograph who are still in Grantham.”
