A GIANT sunflower measuring around 13 feet high has grown in garden in Syston.

Ray Wilson first noticed the self-set plant growing in March.

He said: “I nearly pulled it up at the time but I’m glad I didn’t. Now it feeds the birds.”

Mr Wilson has grown the flowers in his gardens for years but he has not had one this tall before. Certainly not on a plant that he did not even grow in the garden.

He said: “I think the birds have brought it in, it’s come from somewhere. It’s got about 10 flowers on it.”

But this is not the only giant plant Mr Wilson has grown in his garden this year. He recently won the prize for the flower with the largest head at the Barkston Flower Show.
