When Grantham's Watergate was a nicer place to be

We believe this old snap of Watergate was photographed in the late 1950s.

The houses on the eastern side of the road had been demolished and replaced with parkland, later to become a free car park before it was monetised by the council.

But the buildings opposite the Black Dog were yet to be razed to make way for Watergate House and its accompanying shops which were built in the early 1960s.
