GRANTHAM Flower Arrangement Club celebrated its 50th anniversary recently with a dinner and special guest speaker.
The group invited ex-chairmen and friends to join them and help mark the special occasion.
Member of the club Ann Maloney said:
“The highlight of the evening was a most entertaining and jovial after dinner speech given by Nick Grounds, the well known auctioneer and talented flower display artist.
“You don’t even have to be a flower arranger to enjoy the club. The demonstrators are amazing, it’s like a theatrical show.”
Club chairman Carole Retford joined 25 years ago and since that time she has enjoyed going to the meetings, which take place at Grantham Christian Fellowship Centre, in Belton Avenue, on the fourth Wednesday of every month.
She said: “It’s really quite a privilege to be in this position in our 50th year.
“I joined because of the love of flowers. Some of the demonstrations that we have are inspirational. It makes you want to go home and build your own arrangement.”
But picking up the skills of flower arranging from the demonstrators, who visit each month, is not the only reason why Carole enjoys the club so much.
She said: “It’s a very friendly club. I always enjoy coming here and we have outings as well. Last year we went to Prince Charles’ Highgrove Estate. That was brilliant.”
Annual subscription to the club is £25 with one off admission costing £5.
