A1 at standstill at Grantham following crash

Traffic is backing up for several miles on the A1 at Grantham this afternoon (Saturday) following a collision near to the A607 junction just after 3.15pm.

The southbound carriageway is closed between the A607 Harlaxton and Little Ponton turn-offs.

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said it was a one-vehicle collision.

Firefighters provided medical help alongside paramedics and Helimed.

According to Highways England, a diversion has been set up, taking traffic off the A607 turn-off and across to Melton Mowbray, then on to the A606 to Empingham and back on to the A1.

Motorists should expect lengthy delays.

Highways England said it has "resources deployed working hard to restore normal conditions as soon s possible".
