Deloitte has been appointed to run the company that owns St Edmund’s Nursing Home in Grantham which has gone into administration.

Lifeline Nursing Services Ltd will be run by Deloitte which will look for a buyer.

The company owns and operates three elderly care homes, including St Edmund’s, in Lincolnshire, employing about 170 staff and caring for around 125 residents.

St Edmund’s, on Worcester Road, which cares for up to 50 people, confirmed it’s managing company had gone into administration.

A relative of one of the residents at St Edmund’s told the Journal she and other relatives were very concerned for their future. The woman, who did not wish to be named, said she had a parent at the home.

Deloitte said it would ensure the quality of care to all residents “is maintained and enhanced where possible whilst a buyer for the homes is sought”.

She said: “Relatives are very concerned. I feel this is just another example of the way in which care homes are being treated at the moment. They cannot afford to stay open. I feel sorry for the staff as well as the families. What is going to happen?”

Last year, a report by the Care Quality Commission found the nursing home ‘required improvement’ in four areas when it asked if the service was safe, effective, responsive and well-led. It said the home was ‘good’ when it asked if the service was caring.

Daniel Smith, Joint Administrator, said: “We are aiming to ensure operations at the care homes remain unchanged and unaffected. We will, to the extent possible, seek to invest in the portfolio as appropriate during the period of administration trading in order to enhance levels of care and amenity.

“We will be conducting a detailed review of the business and will work closely alongside Careport and the key stakeholders to ensure that long-term financial viability is restored to the business. At the same time, we will work with the Care Quality Commission, Local Authorities, Department of Health and other regulatory trade bodies as appropriate to continue to provide the very highest standard of care.”

Joint Administrators Daniel Smith and Adrian Berry are contacting all involved directly, but if any residents’ families or employees in particular have any concerns, Deloitte has set up the following helpline and email address - relatives’ helpline: 07775 783562, relatives’ mailbox: philippa.williamson@careport.co.uk

Pete Sidgwick, assistant director for Adult Care at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “We are aware that the company that runs St Edmund’s Nursing Home in Grantham has gone into administration. At this time there is no suggestion that the home will close. We’re working closely with staff at the home to make sure that residents continue to get high quality care. We will also help to facilitate discussions with potential buyers.”
