Allington woman power walks numerous half marathons to raise money for operation
An Allington woman is power walking a half marathon every day around her village to raise money to pay for an operation.
Mandy Seymour, of Allington Gardens, is continuing to walk the equivalent of a half marathon every day until her 51st birthday on September 4 when she will undertake her last walk.
Mandy needs to raise £6,000 for the operation which will take away excess skin from her body after she lost nearly half her body weight. She weighed nearly 19 stone four years ago after medication made her put weight on. Now she weighs under 11 stone after she had a gastric sleeve in 2014 which left her stomach the size of an egg.
Mandy said: “This has left me with unsightly excess skin which can only be removed surgically. On September 4 I will be power walking, starting at my house at 11am and covering the distance of a half marathon around Allington village 24 times which is equal to 21.1km. Please come along and egg me on.”
Mandy decided to power walk the distance because she has a prolapsed disc which prevents her from running and she has to take morphine every day for the pain.
Mandy said: “To achieve this will be amazing. It will be a very special birthday. I have been training for four months to get to where I am today. I am so dedicated I was out walking at midnight last night!”
Mandy is married to Philip and they have a 26-year-old daughter, Victoria.
