ARSONISTS targeted the home of an elderly couple living in a quiet village cul-de-sac at the weekend.
Police are appealing for witnesses or anyone who knows who was behind the attack in West Grove, Colsterworth, to come forward after the bungalow was attacked on Sunday morning.
An unknown fuel was poured through the letter box and set alight at around 5.30am.
The fire burned down the door but fortunately did not spread to the rest of the house or neighbouring bungalows.
A police spokesman said: “Thankfully the fire did not spread and no one was hurt.
“A dark grey or silver car with a Ford badge was seen parked next to the property shortly before the incident. Police are keen to trace this car and its driver.
“At 5.20am a vehicle similar in shape and size to an Audi A4 drove on to the Bourne Road Estate and parked up near to the junction with West Grove.
“The person driving this vehicle may be a witness and officers would like to trace them.”
The elderly couple were not at home at the time of the attack and have not been seen at the bungalow for some weeks, according to neighbours.
The motivation for such an act remains a mystery with one neighbour describing the street as usually very quiet and as the kind of place where “everyone keeps themselves to themselves”.
