More peak services between Grantham and Nottingham, promises franchisee
Rail passengers will see more peak services between Nottingham and Grantham as a new firm takes over.
The government has this week announced Abellio as the new East Midlands rail franchise operator.
As well as the additional services, announced as part of a package of improvements, trains will be refurbished and modernised.
Abellio has promised: improved comfort; passenger information system displays; free on-board Wi-Fi; at-seat power sockets; USB points; air conditioning; tables at all seats; and increased luggage space.
A more reliable service is also promised.
Lincolnshire County Council’s executive member for highways, Councillor Richard Davies, said the local authority worked with partners to make the deal work.
He said: “The county council has worked closely with Transport for the East Midlands and other East Midlands local authorities to secure the best deal possible for the East Midlands as a whole.
“There is a lot of good news for the county, and it looks like the new franchise will introduce a lot of the improvements we’ve been calling for.”
Abellio are whole owned by the Dutch state-owned national rail operator and currently operate the East Anglia, ScotRail, West Midlands Rail, London Northwestern and Merseyrail franchises in the UK.
