Lincolnshire Trading Standards is reminding the public to stay on their guard after more reports of bogus callers claiming to be from the county council.
Over the past few days, members of the public have once again been contacting Trading Standards to say they have been targeted by someone called ‘Mike’ claiming to be from Lincolnshire County Council.
Some of those targeted say the call came from a 0300 number, however, others have been more sophisticated, appearing to come directly from council offices.
Pamela Allan, senior trading standards officer at Lincolnshire County Council, said: “Once again we are asking the public to be aware of these bogus calls. Most recently, they appear to have been contacting residents with a 01526 telephone code.
“We know it’s not always easy to tell if a caller is genuine, especially when it seems to come from a legitimate number, but please be assured that Lincolnshire County Council will never contact you in this way.
“It is still not clear what the fraudsters want, or what they will do with any information they manage to gain so please do not give out any personal information to them.
“As always, the best advice is to not get into a conversation with them and simply hang up the phone.”
