A scarecrow in the form of the Big Friendly Giant has won a competition in Allington.

The village’s community newspaper, the Allington News, held a film-based scarecrow competition at the weekend. Most villagers voted for the Big Friendly Giant constructed by Will Allen at Allington Village Stores making his entry the overall winner.

Richard Simpkins, of Allington News, said: “Described in the run-up to he event as ‘epic’ by Will, the village was not disappointed as the BFG towered over the village green as tall as a house.”

Mr Simpkins said The Allington News thanked all those who entered the competition and everyone who supported the event. All proceeds will support the church path appeal and the restoration of the village cross.
