Bowled over by Journal’s walk down memory lane

Have your say

Your photograph of the Barrowby Cricket Club in the recent edition evokes many memories of the past cricket era, and the names of the Orreys, Darceys and Griffins, together with David Sayer, bring back images of cricket at its best – all able and talented cricketers.

Readers may not know that the late Len Darcey, playing in the Thompson cup Competition, on London Road, hit a hundred off the allotted 18 overs with such aggressive batting, almost placing the ball into the Barley Mow Pub, although several almost found their way to Newark via a lorry!

Although Ginger Greaves of Balderton CC made a hundred in such style, my award for a score of 28 in five balls, in 1961 for the Stragglers, has not been bettered, unless someone knows otherwise!
