Boyzone will headline Newark Festival

Irish pop band Boyzone are set to headline Newark Festival on Saturday, June 20, at Riverside Park in Newark.

Now in its fourth year, the festival has gone from strength to strength, previously attracting bands like Human League, Marc Almond, Heaven 17 and Madness, and so Newark-based organisers LHG Live and Newark Town Council are delighted to have secured Boyzone for the town’s biggest event of 2015.

Boyzone’s lead singer Ronan said: “We love the chance to play outdoors through the summer so we are looking forward to a great night in Newark.”

Councillor Dennis Jones, chairman of the council’s environment and leisure committee, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to attract another high profile band to this year’s Newark Festival. This will be the fourth year of the Newark Festival, it has grown over that period and has become an established part of Newark’s cultural calendar.”

Boyzone have behind them 21 singles, seven albums, 25 million record sales, hundreds of concerts, millions of memories. And 22 years later, they are still going strong. They will be performing many of their hits at Newark such as ‘Love Me For A Reason’, ‘Father and Son’, ‘Picture of You’, ‘Words’, ‘Coming Home Now’, ‘A Different Beat’, ‘No Matter What’ and ‘All That I Need’.

On top of Saturday’s show, there are two further days of entertainment lined up over the weekend, with something for all the family.

Friday, June 19, will see the launch of ‘Riverside Rocks’, featuring tribute bands U2UK, Kins of Leon, The Really Hot Chilli Peppers, Coldplace and Green Date.

And following huge success over the last two years, Sunday, June 21, will feature the Newark Carnival procession, culminating in a free family fun day at Riverside Park. This year will see CBBC’s hugely popular Horrible Histories (Barmy Britain Part 2) direct from Londons’ West End, while children can have their faces painted, as well as bring their teddy bears to the Teddy Bear Hospital and Magic Show.

Further musical entertainment is lined up for Sunday evening.

There will also be lots of local produce available in the towns’ market square, throughout the weekend.

Promoter Liz Doogan-Hobbs MBE, from LHG Live, said: “The weekend is busier than ever with ‘Riverside Rocks’ offering a song for everyone. Saturday will be amazing as Boyzone are a great band to watch and they truly represent the values of this family festival. Sunday is going to be fun and lively with something for all the family.”
