Breaking news: Lorry overturns on A1 closing road in both directions

By Grantham Reporter

A lorry carrying chemicals has overturned on the A1 south of Grantham, closing the road in both directions.

Emergency services are on scene and have closed the major road between Colsterworth and the A606 at Stamford while they deal with the incident.

The road closure is causing long tailbacks and motorists are urged to avoid the area. Traffic is currently queuing back to Great Ponton on the northbound carriageway.

Diversions are in place.

There are no reports yet of injuries.

A tweet from Highways England just minutes ago confirmed the Lincolnshire Police is turning "trapped traffic" on to the northbound carriageway. It said: "We can confirm that @lincspolice are now turning trapped traffic on the #A1 near #Colsterworth and #Stamford due to the overturned vehicle. Traffic is being turned from the southbound on to the northbound. If you are stuck in the traffic we hope to have you moving real soon."

More as we have have it.
