MANAGING partner at Duncan & Toplis, Peter Townsend has been appointed to serve on the Confederation of British Industry’s East Midlands regional council.

The CBI’s regional councils are the main consultative bodies in each of the twelve CBI regions.

Mr Townsend said: “The CBI is the pre-eminent voice of British business in the UK.

“I hope that my experience of working with a wide range of businesses within the region will enable me to contribute effectively to the work of the CBI.”

Councillors play a key role in making policy decisions on local issues, as well as providing input into national CBI policy.

Regional councils are consulted on the major CBI national policy issues as well as issues pertaining to their specific region.

One of their main roles is to provide tactical advice to the CBI on the handling of both national and regional business policy positions.

Lucy Haynes, regional director with CBI East Midlands, said: “I am delighted that Peter Townsend has joined the CBI East Midlands regional council.

“Along with a wealth of expertise from the professional services sector, Peter is also able to represent small and medium-sized businesses across the East Midlands with a particular focus on Lincolnshire.

“By influencing the CBI’s policy, Peter will help to ensure that these concerns are heard at the heart of government.”
